Brief

The aim of this project was to create a databank of useful information on international initiatives involving the transformation of vacant spaces into spaces for artistic, creative and cultural uses so that local players could use it to set up similar projects in their areas.

Birmoldatu is:
• “a project that sources, finds, explores and shares international initiatives involving community-based, art-related activities in vacant or unused spaces”.
• “useful, interesting and inspirational open source (CC) information for individuals, associations, collectives, institutions, businesses and town councils who are looking for new uses for empty spaces”.
• “this document should be shared with institutions and town councils so they can implement a similar initiative here (locally)”.

Benefits

A document is now available in Spanish and Basque (a book and a web page) on this very current trend. Prior to this, not much information was available in the Basque Autonomous Community.

Valuable, interesting open source knowledge has been created to be used by local players in the development of creative projects
